Pedagogical continua

Two images as entry points: the heat map as smooth intensive field; the spectrum as smooth continuum paired with striated measurement.

Grant’s seed treats these figures as pedagogical start — image-entry into the ATP pairing, not a substitute for the chapter. Smooth is not “empty of structure”; striated is not “false.” They are regimes of occupation of the same space (here: visible light / intensity field).

Example 1 · Smooth

Amorphous color field: orange ground with liquid bleeds of yellow, green, cyan, blue, and magenta hotspots — no grid, no metric units.
Heat map — continuous intensive field. Amorphous blobs, gradient bleed, intensive variation (color/heat as intensity). No coordinate frame, no metric units. Haptic / wanderable rather than surveyed. Pedagogical shorthand for smooth space.

Example 2 · Smooth continuum + striated cut

Reading the pair

Taken together, the figures stage the classic D&G dynamics in miniature. The heat map shows intensity without a surveying frame. The spectrum shows how the same kind of continuum can be occupied by measurement — named bands, wavelengths, peak markers — without abolishing the underlying bleed.

Speculation / shared context. The Topological Formal Semantics materials treat heat maps as scalar fields φ: M → ℝ, with strata as level sets / intensity zones (arguments, not passive backdrop). Traversal of a hybrid Möbius ribbon through strata is said to accumulate holonomy. That lane crosses Syntax · Semantics · Interface and Math. No Bridge locked. No joint-field claim.
